16. That new chapter.

It’s a collective worry, when something comes to an end – because it instils the idea of having to start anew.  And it’s hard to ditch something you’ve come to know so well and gotten so comfortable with. Hard, but not impossible.

It could be the end of anything – a job, a relationship, school, a friendship – things that offered stability have now been blown out the window. However, in doing so, the doors too have been blown wide for you to walk through. This is no time to hide in the corner.

There is far too much opportunity to consider sacrificing your happiness for your comfort. Life is full of discomfort anyway, don’t willingly be the cause of it. Whether you’re ready or not, you’ve outgrown the room which is only growing smaller run out those doors because why would you ever be casual about moving on to what awaits you?

Think of yourself a few years ago and how much has happened to shape you as you are now. And then think of yourself yesterday. If you view your life, the day-by-days, the experiences as pages of your story you’ll see they all amount to a chapter. By turning the page, your story is not lost. It’s being written and you’re the writer and that is something to be excited about. But ever flowing excitement can trickle alongside overwhelm and blur the lines – but oh my God, what a joy it is to feel something.

You’ll be surprised at how things pan out and how your story progresses. I know I am, every day. There’ll be successes, failures, plot twists, new characters, old characters, pathetic fallacy – you name it. The other day, I saved a pigeon.

Had I planned on waking up and finding the bird with the broken wing? NAH. It interrupted my whole day, but as I blocked my eyes from the blaring sun on the way to the vet, I figured that this was exactly how my day was meant to go. The pigeon was no more an interruption than a reminder that I was there in that moment, alive, and able to continue a story that contributed to my own.

There is chance everywhere for those who want to look. Moving on from what you know is so daunting, but nothing is worse than staying in the same comfortable position for the rest of your life.

So, go for that job, tell that person you like them, move away to start anew somewhere else and remember: the end of something is the beginning of something else – and it could just be the beginning of you. That new chapter is and has always been yours to write, it’s up to you to turn the page over.
